Improved gamma-spectroscopy of marine samples via low background small anode germanium well detector with cosmic veto suppression

چکیده
The small anode germanium (SAGe) Well detector from Canberra Industries with a cosmic veto supression system was tested on marine particles and water samples. The cosmic-veto suppression system reduced the shielded background by an average of 35 % across the energy spectrum. The enhanced energy resolution and efficiency improved the ability to separate the major U-238 decay chain energies 92, 238 and 241 keV c rays as well as separate the Cs-134 peak at 604 keV from the 609 keV cray line of Bi-214. The SAGe Well detector with cosmicveto suppression system has shortened counting times and increased sample throughput.

Determination of virtual point for HPGe detector at various gamma rays energies by simulation and experimental methods
High Purity Germanium detectors (HPGe) are subdivisions of semiconductor detectors which are widely used in nuclear technology from space industry to nuclear medicine, due to their high resolution, low dead time, unlimited size and compatibility with a variety of environments. The( absolute and intrinsic) efficiency of the HPGe detector, which depends on the geometry of the source-detector syst...
متن کاملInvestigation of depleted uranium contamination in south west of Iraq
ABSTRACT Background : The application of DU emanation for first time contaminated certain areas in the south west region of Iraq after the second Gulf war (1991). These contaminated areas were discovered in 1994. Radioactive contamination was detected using the nuclear enterprise PCM5/1 in soil samples collected from two regions near by grazing lands. This study was done for assessment of D...

Physics experiments, environmental surveillance, and treaty verification techniques continue to require increased sensitivity for detecting and quantifying radionuclides of interest. This can be done by detecting a greater fraction of gamma emissions from a sample (higher detection efficiency) and reducing instrument backgrounds. A current effort for increased sensitivity in high resolution gam...

Introduction: Human has always been exposed to background ionizing radiation. Interaction between ionizing radiation and the biological system can lead to changes in cells or tissues inducing diseases, such as cancer. With this background in mind, this experimental study aimed to evaluate the specific activity of water radionuclides in Kermanshah province, western region of Iran. Material and M...
